Yang Dong Ruthie's hometown
This is the orphanage that Ruth lived in for the first year of her life. The first is the outside entrance the second is from inside the courtyard. Yang Dong SWI is in the county of Yang Dong in the city of Yangjiang. Yang means sunshine and Dong means east, it is in the south eastern part of the Guangdong province. The orphanage was very clean, smaller than I thought, it was all very open and airy I guess because of the tropical climate. The workers there knew all our babies by name. Ruth's chinese name was Chen Ni, and was called Chen Chen as a nick name.
We were also able to go to Ruth's finding spot, which was outside the Yang Dong County People's Hospital. We have the whole family pictured there, some day I'll have to explain to our little girl that she was left to be found, we don't know why she was left, but we know that somehow it was all part of God's plan that she was found so she could be part of our family.
This is a view of the courtyard from the second floor where some of the baby rooms are, they would not let us take pictures of the babies.
This is a view from the orphanage entrance looking to the right. Notice the "free range" chickens.
Ruth on the bus ride home, it was a 3 hour drive from Guangzhou.
Yangjiang is known for knives and scissors, we were brought to a local store that sells all kinds of swords, knives, scissors etc... The boys found some pretty cool swords. Ryan found some great things for some friends.
We are very glad we could make the trek to the SWI, but it made for a long day, we hope to have some quieter days ahead. Our trip is only half over we still have 7 days to go.
